Moonlight Over Manhattan
San Bernardino Stake Sweetheart Dance 2011
A year ago this week I went to New York with my friends Judie Cribbs and Janene Zimmerman. This event was inspired by this vacation. Sorry the pictures aren't in perfect order. I haven't figured out how to edit that well. We decorated the foyer to lock like Rockefeller Plaza. My son Christian painted the signs and statue.
We had our own Central Park in the Courtyard area. Below you can see we had gates to the city. You can see we had stop lights and street signs hanging all around the eves as people entered.
We had a big screen projector on the stage that had a slide show going on of pictures of Manhattan at night.
Christian took pictures of each couple as they came in and we quickly downloaded them to a laptop and showed them during our program--A Tribute to Broadway.
Me and my date.
On each of the tables we had this appetizer to start with so people could eat right when they came in. We had 3 bottles of ice cold Martinelli's apple cider on each table. After the appetizer we served a poppy seed
spinach salad with homemade rolls. We then served teriyaki tri tip, cheesy potatoes and asparagus-which turned out perfectly. (Answer to prayers.) For dessert we had New York Cheesecake, of course.
Set up started on Thursday evening. Debbie Robbins cut 175 snowflakes out for us to hang.
In spite of the raging snow storm in the mountain, we had an excellent turnout.
The foyer.
We had an artist make a moon that lit up.and shone above .
Linda Butterfield painted the wall decoration..
Kandi took off work to help me decorate--what a friend.
The great youth of the San Bernardino Stake who served us.
All of my kids were there to help except Lauren who was at BYU.
Debbie and Abby Robbins came to help.
So did Michael Birkett, Scott Dalton, Jim Robbins and my wonderful husband.
Rachel amd her bff Ashley were waiters.
Debbie and Janae worked long and hard to get the dinner on the tables.
Sherry and Dave Curtis came through the snow storm to help.
Almost ready.
Catherine singing "On My Own" from Les Mis during dress rehearsal.
We enjoyed listening.
The night of the performance Faye sang "For Good" from Wicked. It was better than Broadway.
Scott and Catherine Dalton.
What we came home to (Our street)
We finally let the waiters rest during the dance.
Emily and Jared dancing
Andrew and Angel and Mike Grow sang "On the Street Where You Live" from My Fair Lady. While they
were singing we showed pictures of the stake presidency and Bishops when they got married and then now with their children and grandchildren. The audience loved it.
Angel Nogueroles sang "Some Enchanted Evening" while we showed slides of sunsets in the South Pacific.
Rachel, Mandie, Jamie, Ashley, Suzanne Grow and Debbie Robbins sang "Tale as Old as Time" from Beauty and the Beast. For the finale, all the singers combined to sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" from Carousel.
A WONDERFUL EVENING
