The Washburns Answer the Call of the Wild

\
On July 6th, 7th and 8th,  Andrew, myself, Meagan, Macie, Mandie, Rachel and Jamie, went and stayed at a 3 story houseboatk, once owned by author Jack London who wrote "Call of the Wild", in Sausalito, CA .  It was right on the other side of San Francisco, across the Golden Gate Bridge. I got a llitle thrill each time I drove across it.

There was a nice deck with a hot tub.

There were kyaks and a waterbike for us to use also.

Rachel amd Meagan visited Angel Island and Alcatraz on a tour

.  We enjoyed grilled shrimp and clam chowder in Sour Dough Bread Bowls at Fishermn's Wharf.

 Then  on to
Gheridelli Square for Ice Cream.

Thursday we visited Golden Gate Park.

Extended Washburn Reunion in Provo

When we went to Provo for Andrew's extended family reunion, we took some time to spend with my Provo friends, Tye Brown, Karen Murray, and Karen Smith. We all served in the Provo 15th ward Primary over25 years ago and we are still friends. We usually have a potluck at a park when we come to visit and then play dodge ball with our husbands and kids.

Below are some pictures taken at the Washburn Reunion June 26,2010.

The 25th we went to Dan and Jen Washburn's in Saratoga Springs. Jamie and Mandie had fun with their kids.Jay and Lori

The Washburn Family Makes a Big Spash in Page, AZ

The Washburn Family Makes a Splash in Page, AZ

After our trip to Provo for Andrew's extended family reunion, we drove down to Andrew's home town, Page, AZ.  We attended our nephew Brian Washburn's missionary reort in sacrament meeting.  On Monday we rented a boat and took it out on  Lake Powell with Brian and Buzzy.  We had  great time cooling off.  I didn't dare cliff dive, but the girls and Andrew went off some as high as 25 feet.  I did participate in a sand castle building contest with Buzzy and Jamie while Mandie and Rachel tried to get up on skis.

Andrew remembers the good old days in Page as he visits some of his favorite spots at the lake.

I can't finish this entry without mentioning the fun we had in the car on te way down.  The girls were "creative "with pine nuts we purchased at a roadside stand.

Mandie was looking forward to the Eclipse movie debutl
As we got closer to Kanab, I commented to the girls that a lot of movies, especially westerns,  were made in the area. They smartly said, "Like what, Anne of 'Green Stables?"  Which made me laugh.  Then they really got started and made so many jokes that played off of that comment, that I had tears running down my face.

We were grateful to finally make it home late Tuesday night.  Our van died for good in Southern Utah.  We had to rent a car to make it home.  Oh well.  Our van was 13 years old.  The kids had named the van Sally.  Part of the family history laid to rest.

On Friday we all (except Andrew and Christian) went to see the movie Eclipse.  We were excited to run into Brittney and Sam Streble who were in line to see the next showing, before they returned back to Texas the next day.  This is their picture when they came to visit us at Christmas time.  Sam goes to Med school in Lubbock.  Brittany put her teaching career aside to be a stay at home mom for James.
